Almost every guest who flies with us is a first-timer. Almost every one of them says the same thing on landing: "I wish I'd done this sooner." If you're curious but a little nervous, this guide walks you through the entire experience — no surprises, just the good parts.
Before You Arrive
Wear comfortable clothes and closed shoes. Sunglasses are great; hats are not (rotor wash will claim them instantly). Bring your phone or camera fully charged — you'll use it more than you expect. We recommend arriving 20–30 minutes before departure; there's no airport security line, just a relaxed check-in and a coffee if you'd like one.
The Safety Briefing
Your pilot will walk you through three simple rules: follow your guide to your seat, always approach the helicopter from the front where the pilot can see you, and keep clear of the tail rotor. You'll get a headset — it blocks the engine noise and lets you chat with the pilot and your group during the flight. Children get child-size headsets, and yes, they work.
The Takeoff
This is the moment everyone remembers. Helicopters don't roll down a runway — they simply rise. There's a gentle lightness in your stomach, the ground drops away, and within seconds the world turns into a map. Most first-timers grip the seat for the first ten seconds, then reach for their camera. The flight itself is smoother than most people expect — closer to floating than to a rollercoaster.
During the Flight
Your pilot narrates through the headsets: volcanoes, rivers, waterfalls, coastline, wildlife. Want to hover a little longer over a crater or circle back for a photo? On a private flight, just ask — that's the whole point. Flights range from 15-minute tasters to 90-minute expeditions.
Common First-Timer Questions
- Will I get motion sickness? Rarely. Helicopter flight is smooth and stable, and we plan routes around turbulence. If you're sensitive, sit in front and look at the horizon.
- Is it loud? The engines are, but your headset cancels most of it — conversations inside are easy.
- What about heights? Many guests with a fear of heights fly comfortably; the enclosed cabin feels very different from standing on an edge.
- What if the weather turns? We check conditions before every departure. If it isn't safe, we reschedule free or refund in full.
